Tyler is now 26 weeks old!

Measuring your baby from top to toe with his legs extended, he is about 14 inches/ 35.6 centimeters. He weighs a little more than 1.6 pounds/ 760 grams. Your baby's eyes begin to open around now. Response to sound grows more consistent toward the end of the seventh month, when the network of nerves to the ear is complete. He also continues to take small breaths and although he's only breathing in water and not air, it's still good practice for when he's born.

An Asian Perspective

sunny

As usual, I spent my free time reading Atty. Connie Veneracion's blog.

Apart from teaching how to be a better cook, her site is a goldmine of useful information for wives and mothers alike. Yesterday, I came across an article that she wrote three years ago that struck a chord in me.

Here is an excerpt:

I’m Asian and was raised up in a typical Asian family, which meant ideals like meeting my parents’ expectations and repaying them for raising me were already woven into my life before I was even conceived…

Your parents are responsible for raising you. You are not responsible for them. Although it’s honorable to make sure your parents have a good life, don’t do it out of guilt.

Remember, realizing that you don’t owe your parents isn’t enough. You have to accept it and get over the guilt. That’s the most important point you have to remember. You have to practice snapping yourself out of that guilt or you’ll end up shaping your life the way they see fit. To me, living a fake life or one that you’re not happy with is worse than suicide.

I always tell Chocoboy, I am truly thankful that God found me worthy enough to have him. He is truly the best blessing in my life. I want him to live out his life the way he wants to. I want him to be happy. While it is true that he is our (TSA and moi) responsibility, it is because we decided to have him. People have kids because they made the choice to forever have their hearts go walking around outside their bodies. We will never burden our son with the thought that he needs to take care of us when we are older. The same goes for his little brother Tyler who is due to come out on September. This is not a case of "re-paying" as I have heard other parents impose on their kids. We are not your responsibilities. Your dad and I have lived our lives. We will be happiest when we see the two of you live yours.

Si TSA at ang bata sa bus

all seasons in one day

cho0035l.jpg

May dalang sako.

"35",sagot nito. "Pero ibaba na yan. Delikado. Mabaho pa", tuloy pa nito.

"Eto bayad nung bata.

Paano naging delikado yan? Ang delikado, maulan ngayon tapos paglalakarin mo yan mula Cubao hanggang Palmera".

Almost Famous

all seasons in one day

Dahil super init, naisipan niyang tumambay muna sa lobby ng Octagon (behind Megamall) bago umuwi with his workmates.

Nagulat sya ng may kumalabit sa kanya.

"TSA", sabi ng kumalabit.

Deadma ang TSA. Kinalabit sya ulit...... "TSA".

"What are you doing here?"

"May contract signing ako bro.

"You work here, bro? Let me guess, call center noh?", tanong pa ni Luke.

luke3110.jpg

Gulat si TSA dahil ang sagot ay "Wait, I'm talking to my friend here". Bongga.

Will you adopt a bear?

Saw this on yahoo.com...

all seasons in one day

The Slovenian Logar family has adopted the three-and-half-month-old bear cub that strolled into their yard about 30 days ago. Although the family would like to prepare a fenced enclosure for it, veterinary authorities would prefer to move it into a shelter for wild animals.

Cutie..

While I appreciate the thought behind adopting the bear cub, I can't help but feel apprehensive. After all, bears are wild animals. Melo (the cub's name) might be all cute and cuddly now, but what happens when he gets all grown up? Even if the adoptive family becomes successful in "taming" him, there is still the risk of Melo harming them, unintentional or not.

This kinda reminds me of "The Cove". Dolphins are meant to swim freely. Not to be caged in some pool, forced to perform tricks for our pleasure.

23 week old Tyler...

I am comforted by the fact that the sounds Tyler is hearing now won't bother him outside the womb. Ang iingay kasi nila Bettina (the newest addition), Char, Penny at Greggy.

all seasons in one day

23.jpg

Your baby now weighs a little over one pound/ 500 grams and measures about 11.4 inches/ 29 centimeters from crown to heel. Her hearing is well established and she can make out a distorted version of your voice, the beating of your heart and your stomach rumblings. Loud noises often heard in utero, such as the barking of a dog next door or the roar of a vacuum cleaner, probably won't bother your child when she hears them outside the womb.

Some studies seem to indicate that the unborn prefer classical music.

In addition to advances in your baby's hearing, her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing. She's swallowing but she normally won't pass her first stool (called meconium) until after birth.

If your baby were to be born now, she would have a small chance of survival (about 16 per cent) with the right care. Every day in the womb makes a difference at this stage. If she was born at 24 weeks her chance of survival would rise to 44 per cent.

As for you, you may feel clumsy now that your centre of gravity has shifted. Your gums may bleed when you brush your teeth and your belly button, once an 'innie', may now stick out. Don't worry. It'll revert to its pre-baby state soon after you give birth.
